The next time you host a birthday party for your child or teen—or a holiday get-together for adults—suggest that your guests bring a new or gently used children’s book. As a family take these items to a homeless shelter or domestic abuse facility.

By doing so, you give a strong message to your child or teen of the importance of sharing reading experiences. You also are offering the gift of reading to those who could benefit from the ownership of a book to call one’s own.
