Spring sports for kids are not yet in full swing, and winter sports are nearly over—but not the enthusiasm some kids have for their sports heroes and love of the game or event. While kids are not on the field or court there is time for reading together some great sports-related books.

Three new titles immediately come to mind:

  • Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, by Simone Biles with Michelle Burford, relates the remarkable journey of a girl placed in foster care who eventually becomes a world all-around gymnastics champion and Olympic gold medalist in 2016.

  • Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team, by Steve Sheinkin, rewrites the history of football while sharing Thorpe’s achievements and tragedy.

  • Muhammad Ali: A Champion is Born, by Frank Morrison, introduces this American icon to children ages 4-8.
