I am enjoying an entertaining romp through Bruce Handy’s Wild Things: The Joy of Reading Children’s Literature as an Adult. Handy’s backstories, historical context, adult humor, and psychological tidbits offer a refreshingly new appreciation of classics I thought I knew inside out.

Although Handy focuses on ten favorite authors, his extensive bibliography is an excellent resource for parents, teachers, and librarians. Lev Grossman on the book jacket raves, “I’ve read these books a thousand times, but only now do I finally understand them.” I couldn’t agree more.
